1 Dead, 1 Injured in San Francisco Muni Train Shooting – NBC Bay Area

One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting on a Muni train in San Francisco on Wednesday morning, police said.

The shooting happened around 10 a.m. between Forest Hill and Castro stations, San Francisco Police Officer Kathryn Winters said. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the train at Castro station and is still at large.

Winters said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.

“I also want to assure the community that this incident does not appear to be related to Pride events or appear to be targeting the LGBTQ community,” Winters said. “We really want to make sure our community members and visitors who are in town for Pride week understand that.”

It was not immediately known if the suspect and the victims knew each other. Police are investigating any potential links and are also looking into what led to the shooting.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to contact the San Francisco police.

Muni subway service between West Portal and Castro stations has been shut down, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced.
