15 people injured after car crash in Berwick, Pa. at benefit for Nescopeck, Pennsylvania fire victims

BERWICK, Pa. (WPVI) — A hospital says more than a dozen people were injured after a car crashed in a benefit staged for the 10 people killed in a fire in Pennsylvania, according to reports.

Geisinger Hospital says it treated 15 patients after Saturday night’s crash in Berwick, Pennsylvania.

According to WNEP-TV, the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. at a restaurant called the Intoxicology Department.

There was no immediate word on the severity of these injuries.

A photo released by WNEP shows firefighters and at least one emergency vehicle at the scene.

Local newspaper The Times-Leader reports that several people were struck by a vehicle.

The cause of the accident is not yet known.

The restaurant released a statement on its Facebook page saying:

“Today has been an absolute tragedy. We will be closed until further notice. Please respect our privacy as we grieve and try to process the events that have transpired. Thank you.”

The benefit was held at the restaurant for the victims of a fire on August 5 in Nescopeck, Pennsylvania, during which 10 people died.

The dead included seven adults and three children. One of the firefighters who responded to this scene was a relative of the victims.

All 10 victims of that fire died of smoke inhalation, the coroner said.
