AFL 2022: Logan McDonald Sydney Swans contract news, West Coast, Fremantle rumour

A “wild” rumor that has been swirling for weeks has now exploded with a Swans star suddenly linked to a ludicrous contract.

The AFL rumor mill has gone crazy surrounding the uncertain future of Swans rising star Logan McDonald.

Just a few weeks after reports the Swans had tabled the 19-year-old a four-year contract extension, the situation has exploded.

Reports emerged Monday night there are whispers being spread that a rival club has offered McDonald’s a 10-year contract.

McDonald’s manager Ben Williams is reported to have told the Swans he has received a monster offer for the No. 4 draft pick.

McDonald remains the only top-end draft selection from the 2020 National Draft who is yet to sign a contract extension beyond the standard two-year rookie contract he first signed.

Now the speculation has unearthed a wild rumour.

Journalist Sam Edmund told SEN Breakfast on Tuesday morning the clubs rumored to be circling McDonald are West Coast and Fremantle.

McDonald was always viewed as a risky recruitment gamble for the Swans with McDonald previously declaring he would have liked to have remained in Western Australia, where his family is.

“The talk goes that another club is prepared to offer Logan McDonald a 10-year contract on big money,” Edmund said.

“The Swans are telling people they’ve actually been informed by McDonald’s management that another club was willing to table that contract.

“If it exists, you’re looking over at West Coast and Fremantle. He did come with the caveat that he could go home sooner rather than later.

“But he loves it in Sydney, and they’re building something nice as well. They just have to find the right deal.”

SEN reports Williams has denied telling the Swans McDonald has received interest in a 10-year contract offer.

The rumor has reportedly been swirling for weeks.

McDonald is the center piece in the Swans plans to eventually prepare for life without Lance Franklin.

McDonald kicked nine goals in the seven games he played in 2021.

The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph posted on Twitter there is “wild speculation” about McDonald’s and a “massive deal elsewhere”.

“It’s not happening. Talks are constructive with the Swans as we speak and he will stay. Still discussing the exact length of tenure,” Ralph wrote.

“It is up to the manager to assess what rival interest is on a player so he can maximize his worth. The rumor was a ten-year deal, which is denied, but that doesn’t really maximize its worth anyway. Get two or three years at good coin then the huge long-term deal in his prime.”
