The winger has scored 10 Origin tries over the past four years and formed a deadly partnership with Tom Trbojevic on the NSW right edge in the series-dominant 2021 win.

Fittler’s desire for a new breed has seen him make a number of left-field selections as he chases a fourth series win in five years. It handed out 11 Origin debuts in the first game of the 2018 series, and has seemingly had the golden touch ever since.

With Addo-Carr and Trbojevic casualties, Fittler turned to veteran strikers Tariq Sims and Tyson Frizell in a bid to stem a Billy Slater-led Queensland revival inspired by the Cowboys and Broncos.

Fittler is banking on Tupou’s height to potentially counter the aerial threat from Queensland wingers Xavier Coates and Selwyn Cobbo, who is set to make his Maroons debut.

While the news was good for Tupou, it was not so bright for his Roosters team-mate Angus Crichton who lost his place in the NSW squad.

Liam Martin, who played in all three games of last year’s series, is among seven Panthers stars to top the table in Team NSW. Hooker Api Koroisau will also follow Damien Cook.

The Sharks halfback Hynes is set to make his Origin debut following his off-season stint from the Storm, with his ability to cover any injury to Nathan Cleary a key part of his selection.

Fittler also has his eye on the future with Suaalii, the wonderkid who received a special exemption to make his NRL debut before his 18th birthday last year, being called up to NSW’s extended camp after impressing on the wing for Roosters.

Newcastle’s Jacob Saifiti was another surprise call-up, just a day after twin brother Daniel’s original chances ended with a knee injury in the Knights’ win over the Warriors on Saturday.

Saifiti is expected to gain experience around the Blues camp as part of the extended squad with a view to making his Origin debut in the future.

South Sydney skipper Cameron Murray has been sent back to the Blues’ setup after successfully returning from minor shoulder surgery on Saturday night and will start as back rower, allowing Isaah Yeo to secure the position of locking and keeping his club. combination with Cleary and Luai.

The Origin series opener will be played at the Accor stadium on June 8.
