England vs Netherlands cricket world records: Highest ODI total ever scored, Jos Buttler goes berserk scorecard

England produced a striking display unlike anything cricket has ever seen in an astonishing round that broke world records.

Cricket has never seen anything like it.

England broke world records in a simply absurd first leg against the Netherlands on Friday night (AEST).

The first ODI in Amstelveen turned into a bloodbath for the home side as England set a new world record for the highest ever innings score in ODI cricket.

England finished their 50 overs 4/498 with three batters all scoring hundreds.

By the end of the carnage, England had hit 25 sixes and 36 fours.

As the pyrotechnics of the final innings continued to fire, it looked very likely that Eoin Morgan’s side were on course to become the first side to reach the 500 run mark in ODI cricket.

Instead, England had to settle for a new world record – breaking the highest ever score in ODI cricket – England’s 481 score against Australia in 2018.

The list of records broken on Friday night is simply insane, including:

– This is the first time England have three batsmen scoring centuries in an ODI innings.

– Liam Livingstone scored the second fastest fifty in ODI cricket. He reached 50 from 17 balls, finishing one short of AB de Villiers’ record of 16 balls set in 2015.

– Livingstone also set a new record for the most runs ever scored in an over by an English cricketer with 32 runs from an over.

– Jos Buttler, who finished on 162 steps out, plundered his ton on just 47 balls – missing his own record for England’s fastest century by a single ball.

– England have scored 198 runs from their last 12 overs.

England needed 40 runs from the last three overs to reach 500. This was the final where they needed to hit 12 runs from the last two balls. Livingstone only managed to hit a four and a six.

Buttler scored with his 162 steps on 70 balls, but he had plenty of help from Dawid Malan (125 of 109) and Phil Salt (122 of 93).

Unfortunately, the Netherlands won the toss and sent the tourists to bat.
