Fran Brown is one of America’s top recruiters

Georgia has a new gem in its five-star cornerback recruiting class of 2023 AJ Harriswho chose to play his college football in Athens rather than Florida, Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Harris was one of the most sought-after players nationally at his position and is ranked by Top247 as the No. 3 cornerback in the nation and the No. 25 player in the 247Sports Composite overall.

This cycle, Georgia defensive backs coach Francois Brown went from one of America’s top unknown scouts (Baylor and Rutgers recruited at high levels of the program with him courting nearly every prospect) to a mainstream name on the trail, rallying UGA from behind to get a commitment from Harris. In the spring, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Harris was a heavy hitter for Florida, but Brown kept snacking and landed perhaps the program’s main target at position on the board.

This is the second time Georgia have rallied for a vaunted cornerback under Brown’s watch as they also knocked down the ballyhooed cover guy Justyn Rhet of Notre-Dame in April. It was Brown who also led the charge on that one.

With Harris in the fold, UGA moves up five spots to No. 5 in the 247Sports composite team recruiting rankings. They are on the short list of programs that have a chance of finishing #1.

In Harris, Georgia lands a versatile defensive back who can live on an island on the perimeter, cover in the slot, and someone who brings the level of physicality needed to compete in the SEC. It is long, competitive and fluid.
