HT score: Gold Coast 54-16 Port Adelaide
Port Adelaide’s day on the Gold Coast has gone from bad to worse.
After managing just one major in the first half, half-forward Sam Powell-Pepper was forced off late in the second quarter.
The 24-year-old clutched at his left hamstring as he contested a ball with Suns midfielder Alex Davies.
Powell-Pepper did not return as he hobbled over the boundary line.
He was not the only Port player to leave the field with an injury concern after Scott Lycett came off in the first minute of the third quarter with a left ankle issue.
Young gun Davies, meanwhile, is pushing for a round one selection after a booming start to his pre-season match against Port Adelaide.
The 19-year-old kicked two goals in the opening quarter, the second from well outside the 50 after the quarter-time siren.
Davies was one of five first-quarter goal scorers, while Powell-Pepper was the lone goal scorer for Port.
Alex Sexton slotted a goal on the half-time hooter off a free kick. It was just the second goal of the quarter.
Meanwhile, former No.1 pick Matt Rowell is also looking impressive as he looks to put his injury woes behind him.

ULTIMATE GUIDE: Everything you need to know about the 2022 AFL pre-season
Recruited in the off-season from Richmond, the Suns will be hoping Mabior Chol can replace Ben King after the young forward’s season-ending injury, with ex-Blue Levi Casboult also named and in the mix to take King’s spot.
With the exceptions of Orazio Fantasia and Charlie Dixon, the Power have sent a healthy list up to the Gold Coast, with draftee Josh Sinn and 2019 draftee Jackson Mead both pushing hard for AFL debuts.
The match gets underway at Metricon Stadium from 3pm EDT, with four quarters of 27 and a half minutes (no time-on) to be played.
The Suns struck first with a goal to Izak Rankine, but the Power responded immediately with Sam Powell-Pepper nailing a shot running inside 50 after a pass from Travis Boak.
