Justin Thomas on suspensions, ‘I’m pleased’; Rory McIlroy ‘really appreciates’ PGA Tour’s handling

The PGA Tour released a statement Thursday morning announcing that any player who plays for LIV Golf will be suspended indefinitely.

There were 17 names listed on the Tour announcement that have already been suspended, with more surely on the way.

Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy have been two of the Tour’s most vocal fans — and LIV Golf critics — and both were asked about the suspensions Thursday at the RBC Canadian Open.

Justin Thomas

“I’m happy. I think anyone who’s shocked clearly didn’t listen to the message that Jay and everyone else put out. They took that risk whether they thought it was a risk or not. As I l I’ve said all the time, I have great confidence and great faith in the PGA Tour and where we’re going and continuing to grow, and these guys just aren’t going to be a part of it.

Rory McIlroy

“I think at this point Jay has been pretty transparent in terms of following the rules of the tournament and the rules set for a member of the PGA Tour. All he’s doing is basically following the book. I think that the majority of the members who are here this week who haven’t gone to play somewhere else are really enjoying that so I think he did the right thing because those guys broke the rules and did things in outside the tournament rules, and because of that there will be consequences, I guess.
