Los Osos is one of the top 10 small coastal towns in the United States, according to readers of USA Today.

They selected the San Luis Obispo County community as part of the publication’s Top 10 Readers’ Choice Awards for 2022.

“Forget Miami and Laguna Beach! says USA Today. “The 10 best small coastal towns – each with a population under 25,000 at the last census – offer unpretentious and affordable seaside entertainment without the crowds, proving that bigger isn’t always better.

Travel experts and editors at 10Best initially came up with a list of 20 locations that was narrowed down to 10 finalists based on popular vote.

Los Osos ranked #8 on the Top 10 list, which included Ocean Springs, Mississippi; Bandon, Oregon and Rockport, TX. Only two California cities — Half Moon Bay and Los Osos — made the list.

The North Shore city “seems to have it all,” Sherel Purcell wrote in the USA Today article.

“Sophisticated little restaurants and cafes sit on the calm seashore which offers the best views of (Morro Rock, which) seems to rise out of the sea to the north,” she wrote. “A hillside golf course overlooks a sleepy bay and beautiful Montaña De Oro State Park.”
