Martin Leads After Day One at Team USA Trials

Las Vegas, NV- After the first day of qualifying, freshman Jillian Martin currently holds first place at the 2023 United States Bowling Congress (USBC) All-American Team Trials with a total of 1,350 and an average of 225.

Martin is joined by five other bowlers from Nebraska, Kendyl Hofmeister, Anna Callan, Marissa Cosentini, Crystal Elliott and Kayla Verstraettein this week’s tournament, held Tuesday through Sunday at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Elliott currently sits 12th with a total of 1,244, with Hofmeister 53rd, Verstraete 85th, Callan 87th and Cosentini 127th.

Husker’s current assistant coach Julia Bond is also competing and is in 22nd place with a total fall of 1,196. Husker legend and former assistant coach Shannon Pluhowsky is in 25th place with a total of 1,185 points.

Throughout the week, competitors will earn ranking points based on their finishing positions in each of the qualifying rounds – top bowler in the block earns one ranking point, (Martin), second place earns two points, etc. . – with the lowest total of ranking points after the five blocks determining the Team USA Trials champion, who will automatically earn a spot in Team USA for 2023.
