Michael Owen ‘available to visit daughter Gemma and partner Luca in Love Island’s Meet The Parents’

‘It’s a golden opportunity’: Michael Owen is ‘available to visit daughter Gemma and her partner Luca in Love Island’s Meet The Parents episode’

Michael Owen will reportedly be available to visit his daughter Gemma and her partner Luca Bish in the looming Meet The Parents episode of Love Island.

The former England striker, 42, is thought to have a free schedule in the final week of July, which would be a ‘golden opportunity’ for him to jet to the villa in Mallorca.

BT Sport announced there will not be any football fixtures that week so he won’t be needed at work as a sports pundit for the channel, according to The Sun.

It would mark the first time Michael could see his daughter, 19, who flew to the Balearic island to begin quarantining in mid-may ahead of the ITV2 show’s premiere.

A source told the newspaper: ‘The end of July looks to be a golden opportunity for Michael to see Gemma.

‘He’s notoriously private and anything could change between now and finals week but, all things considered, the odds on him taking part are better than ever.’

The Meet The Parents episode comes soon before the final and sees the couple’s parents or loved ones jet out to see them and meet their romantic partner.

If Gemma still remains on the show for the episode, her father will reportedly be available to head out to the Mallorca villa to meet Luca Bish, who Gemma is currently coupled up with.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Gemma, Michael, Love Island and BT Sport for comment.

It comes after a source told MailOnline Michael is ‘dreading’ Gemma being pushed into more risqué tasks in the weeks leading up to the show’s final if she wants to win.

The sportsman refused to watch his daughter take part in the heart rate challenge last week, which saw her dress up and lap dance in front of the boys.

Father of four Michael previously insisted in the weeks prior to the episode that he didn’t think Gemma would be happy to take part in the challenge.

However after she did, insiders told MailOnline the former England star is hoping she won’t compromise on what she feels comfortable with in order to win the show.

A friend said: ‘To be honest Michael will just be relieved when Gemma’s home. He’s massively proud of her and knows she has a sensible head on her shoulders.

‘But he knows she is incredibly ambitious which has left him a bit anxious that doesn’t lead to her doing stuff to win the show that she might otherwise normally have stepped back from.

‘He’s sure it won’t but he just hopes she doesn’t take things too far. Michael has barely watched the show as he has been quite busy over the past few weeks but his wife Louise keeps him up to date with what’s going on.’

The source added that Michael has told his wife not to mention any of the ‘bad stuff’ that takes place on the show.

With more contestants arriving this week the stakes have been raised even higher with the possibility of more raunchy challenges and tasks for the villa housemates as they compete to get to the final.

The couple who wins the final at the end of the series will also have the chance to take home £50,000 with the final twist being whether the loved up couple decided to share it or steal it for themselves.
