New Rumor Is Good News for Mortal Kombat Fans

A new rumor has good news for mortal combat fans are hoping NetherRealm Studios’ next game is mortal combat 12. The latest release from the Chicago-based studio came in the form of Mortal Kombat 11. It was three years ago. When MK11 was released, it was expected that Ijustice 3 would be next and release in 2021. That was the expectation as the studio has alternated between the two franchises for some time now, releasing a game every two years. Obviously, something has changed. We don’t know if anything went wrong, but that pattern was broken. Not only have three years passed without a game being released, but nothing has been revealed yet.

There are still those who believe Injustice 3 is in the works, mainly because of Nvidia’s increasingly infamous leak. There have also been rumors dating back to 2021 that the team is working on a Marvel fighting game. And finally, there have been rumors that the team is currently working on more mortal combat. Various sources have now attached their names to these MK12 rumors. The latest rumor involving NRS does not, but it certainly reinforces those rumors.

On Twitter, The Thin relays that EA and Marvel are working together on a fighting game. Why is this relevant? Well, because there wouldn’t be two Marvel fighting games in development at the same time. It is possible but very unlikely. This apparently crushes previous rumors about the wonders of the NRS. And if you are a mortal combat fan hoping to see MK12 from NRS, this is good news, as rumors of the Marvel game cast doubt on this possibility. NRS could still work on something else, mainly Injustice 3but there have been no rumors or leaks about Injustice 3 beyond the aforementioned Nvidia leak. All rumors have either been that the studio is working on MK12 or a Marvel game. If we are to believe this new rumor, it is not the second that leaves only the first.

That said, at the moment all we have are rumors and speculation. Nothing here is official, so be sure to take everything with a grain of salt. In the meantime, feel free to leave a comment to let us know what you want to see from the NRS.
