One In Two Women In India Now Consider Career In Gaming: Study

New Delhi: As gambling becomes mainstream, 56% of female gamers now see gambling as a full- or part-time career option, according to a study released Thursday. Female gamers envision a career in gaming, turning their hobby into a profession (50%) and offering good earning prospects (45%). While becoming a gamer remains the most preferred, other options like becoming an influencer or game software developer are also of interest to them, according to the second edition of “HP India Gaming Landscape Study 2022”.

The game is also considered a source of entertainment and relaxation (92%), improving mental agility (58%) and socializing (52%).

PCs remained the most preferred device for gaming as 68% of gamers voted for PCs because they offer better processors, better design and graphics with immersive screens, according to the study.

“The PC gaming landscape in India offers a tremendous opportunity for young people and at HP we are committed to supporting gamers on their journey by providing knowledge, tools and opportunities to enhance their skills and help them improve their gaming through OMEN Community Initiatives,” said Vickram Bedi, Senior Director, Personal Systems, HP India market.

The benefits of PC gaming are also persuading mobile gamers to switch, as 39% of mobile gamers are looking to migrate to a PC for gaming.

According to the study, only 2% of respondents had received formal training in gaming. While most gamers rely on improving their personal skills to improve their gaming performance, 32% follow a gaming star to improve their skills.

“The strong preference for PC games represents a huge business opportunity for us. We remain focused on designing the best experiences based on user insights to enable a holistic and advanced gaming ecosystem in India,” Bedi said.
