Pop Mart opens first US store in Costa Mesa – Orange County Register

Pop Mart, a global entertainment company known for its art toys and collectibles, has opened its first pop-up location in the United States in Costa Mesa.

The 2,148 square foot store at South Coast Plaza offers art toys designed and inspired by popular culture. The company recruited a variety of designers including Kenny, Pucky, Ayan, Kasing Lung and Skullpanda to launch thousands of designs that resonated with customers, the company said.

Toys include Zoe Monster Story Series, Skullpanda X The Adams Family Series, Duckoo in the Kitchen, Bobo and Coco Go Camping Series, and Philip Colbert Lobster Land Series, among others.

Pop Mart has also collaborated with Disney and Warner Bros. at the launch of the Harry Potter series and classic Marvel toys. The company is also known for its “blind boxes”, which are boxes with a random assortment of novelty items inside that the buyer never sees until they are opened.

The blind box phenomenon has gained traction in recent years, giving rise to a new slogan – “the blind box economy”.

Founded in 2010, the Beijing-based company operates in 23 countries and regions, with over 350 physical stores and over 1,800 Robo Shop vending machines globally.

Justin Moon, vice president of Pop Mart and president of Pop Mart International, said the United States ranks first in the global toy market.

“The influence of American pop culture on a global scale cannot be underestimated, and young people are championing individual expressions,” Moon said. “Pop Mart hopes to ignite passion and bring joy, by connecting closely with local youth in more diverse ways.”

The company plans to expand into the United States, although specific future store locations are yet to be revealed.

Pop Mart is China’s fastest growing art toy brand by retail value, according to a report by Frost & Sullivan, a research firm the company hired to write its IPO prospectus. .
