Los Angeles is expected to finish the regular season in first place in the Western Conference after winning 16 of its 23 games in MLS.

Steve CherundoloThe team are six points ahead and one game ahead of Dallas FC, who currently sit in second place.

They extended their winning streak last weekend to five matches with a comprehensive 4-1 away win against Real Salt Lake.

Serge Cordoba equalized for visitors after Christian Arango had opened the scoring in the ninth minute, but LAFC restored the lead thanks to Acosta de Kelly before the 20th minute.

Arango’s second goal of the game followed before Gareth Bale wrapped up the 4-1 win that leaves LAFC second in MLS leading scorers and with the best defensive record in the Western Conference.

Unlike their hosts, Charlotte sits outside the playoffs in 11th place, but they can still qualify for the playoffs with a point separating them from the top seven.

If they want to make a playoff push, they will need to improve on their current form, which has seen them lose three of their last four games in MLS.

After losing 3-2 and 4-0 to Inter Miami and Toronto respectively, Charlotte seemed to have reached a milestone by beating DC United 3-0.

However, they were narrowly beaten 3-2 at home to the Chicago Fire last weekend, with goals from Yordy Reyna and Karol Swidersky not enough to help their side avoid defeat.

Charlotte faces another tough competition this weekend when she travels to Los Angeles in a bid to pick up her second away win of the MLS season.
