‘The Witcher 3’ trailer shares a first look at next-gen update

CD Projekt Red gave fans a preview of the next-gen patch for The Witcher 3before its launch on December 14.

The update, which will be released for free to all existing players next month, will bring a wide range of graphical changes and new content to the game. With the update, console players will be able to choose between a game-focused mode graphics with ray tracing or a performance mode that prioritizes a frame rate of 60 frames per second. Meanwhile, PC gamers will be able to take advantage of an optional wide camera angle that gives the game a more cinematic feel.

There are even more changes across the board, including a number of handy visual improvements. The update features high-resolution textures and meshes, in-game grass and foliage have been reworked, and players can expect to see more varied weather conditions.

In addition to the visual improvements, CD Projekt Red brought a number of quality of life improvements. Players will have the ability to increase the size of subtitles, take advantage of new map filters, use button shortcuts to cast sign magic, and will also be able to make the minimap disappear during combat or at horse. Additionally, the game now supports cross-save between PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.

There’s also new content in the game, inspired by the Netflix adaptation of the series. There’s a new questline where players can acquire Witcher gear inspired by Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt, as well as Netflix-inspired costumes for Yennefer, Triss, Ciri, Dandelion, and Nilfgaardian soldiers.

While the next generation Witcher 3 is currently digital only, CD Projekt Red is planning a physical release “at a later date”.
