US Open golf 2022 LIVE: Leaderboard and latest scores from final round

Justin Thomas: It’s sad that LIV Golf eclipses the US Open

The final round of the 2022 US Open is here with Will Zalatoris and Matt Fitzpatrick sharing the lead at -4 at Brookline, while defending champion Jon Rahm is within striking distance one stroke behind.

Blustery, testing conditions allowed the Country Club to show their teeth throughout the week, with just nine under-par players including Rory McIlroy, who rode through a torrid third round to remain in contention at -1 despite the yesterday’s opening with a three over by score for its first seven holes. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler briefly came down to -6 when he broke through from 102 yards for an eagle in the eighth, but the American fell sharply, producing a double bogey on the short 11th followed by two more bogeys, although that the Masters champion is just two back and ready to capitalize if the leaders slip. Other names to watch include local favorite Keegan Bradley, a former PGA Championship winner, who has two under, as does Canadian Adam Hadwin, and those with one under and hoping to climb the rankings include Sam Burns and Joel Dahman.

“I would be lying if I said I didn’t think about it [winning]. It would just mean the world,” said Fitzpatrick, who could become the first non-American to win both the US Amateur and the US Open. “It’s a special place for me and to go even further and win a round of the US Open here would be even more special. The American amateur was one of the greatest achievements of my career and still is. , and if I won a major here he would definitely top it My family is in town I have a few friends here too and the family I’m staying with is fun too so I’ll have lots of distractions which will be good with a late start time. I’m thrilled to give myself another shot at a major just a month later, I’m really, really proud of the way I played. Follow all the action from the fourth and final round of the US Open below:

It’s been tough for Rahm so far. The defending champion was furious with himself after pushing his approach into the 7th, leaving himself a good 40 feet for a birdie. He escapes with a par after a tricky return putt, but is still one over for his turn and four strokes behind Scheffler.

After seeing his second roll off the false front on the par-5 8th, Scheffler catches his throw a little heavy and can only sadly watch the ball return to his feet. The next attempt is much better but still leaves 5 feet to save par. He holds his composure and pumps his fist as the ball catches the right lip. The world No. 1 remains the absolute leader.

Here’s another look at that beautiful tee shot that set up a birdie in the 6th for Zalatoris.

The American has just produced an even better effort in the 7th and thus almost holed up his approach from the fairway. That leaves a tap-in of no more than a few centimeters and, after a dodgy start, Zalatoris is back at -4.

Fitzpatrick returned his tee shot on the 6th and, although the ball held pretty much on the green, he was left with a gruesome 66-foot putt across and down the slope to the front right edge. He gives it a great look but it slips right past the flag and runs a good 5ft. The return to the top of the hill is heard and it is his first bogey of the day.

At 8, Scheffler catches his second in the somewhat big par 5 and rolls it all the way down the false front.

It’s starting to look a lot like a two-horse race between Scheffler and Fitzpatrick.

Zalatoris at least manages to get back in the rearview mirror but with a magnificent starting shot in the 6th. It should be a simple tap-in to bring it down to -3, however, nothing is ever routine with the American’s dodgy putt shot.

Fitzpatrick two putts for a birdie and takes back part of the lead.

Scheffler couldn’t get close to his second in the 7th and had to settle for a par. He quickly made amends with a huge drive on the fairway at the par-5 8th.

What a shot Matt Fitzpatrick! After seeing Rahm angrily go off with a bogey after missing the green on the 5th driveway, the Englishman continues straight to the big stick and finds the middle of the green. He will be 24 feet for the eagle and will surely join at least Scheffler at the top of the standings.

McIlroy’s par putt is down the hole and it’s his third bogey of the round. He now has five shots back and his hopes seem outlandish.

Scheffler looks like a possessed man right now. After that nice tee shot on the 6th, he rolls in a 14-foot putt up the hill for a birdie. The world number 1 is four cents up to six! He leads by one.

Meanwhile, McIlroy’s roller coaster shows no signs of slowing down. He had three birdies and two bogeys in six holes and is now getting his practice in the thickness of the 7th. The rough grabs his club and his approach is short and to the left. The ground isn’t great from there, despite having some green to work with and he’ll have another tricky downhill putt to try and save par.
