US woman roasted over Australian coffee comment

An American tourist has been slammed online after she shared a clip of ‘What not to do in Australia’ – including a shocking claim about Aussie coffee.

An American has been roasted online after she made a derogatory comment about Australian coffee.

TikTok travel influencer Erin Fang, who has amassed more than 13.5 million likes under the handle ‘thelittlebasketco’, has infuriated some Australians after she shared a clip on ‘What not to do in Australia’.

While Erin mostly shares luxurious content about Greece – especially Santorini – she decided to share some of her top tips after recently visiting Sydney and Melbourne.

She begins the clip by alerting her 213,000 followers on how to get the best shots of Australia’s most iconic landmark.

“Here’s what not to do if you’ve just landed in Australia,” she says.

“Don’t go straight to the Opera. If you want the best photos of the Opera House take a ferry to Manly Beach.”

While his advice was fairly fair, it was his next comment that put many Australians on the defensive.

“Then don’t fall for coffee,” she says. “Honestly we heard Melbourne had the best coffee but it just didn’t live up to the hype.”

She said if you “have to splurge” definitely go for Patricia’s – a hip, standing-room-only brasserie on Little Bourke Street.

Now, given that Australia is known for having some of the best coffee in the world, with the Square Australia Coffee 2019 report revealing it to be an $8 billion business, Erin’s comment was a big surprise.

“Australian coffee is some of the best in the world, please your taste buds, miss the sweet Starbucks,” one person wrote.

“I can’t take this seriously if you doubt the Melbourne coffee scene,” a second person commented, while a third added: “I feel like this video was just bait to send all Australians wild.”

Others have pointed out that American coffee is very different from Australian coffee.

” Nope. Tourists should stick to American Starbucks coffee. That’s what they’re used to, huh,” one man wrote.

“You’re all used to coffee from the United States, with about 20 teaspoons of sugar in it,” said another, a third adding, “To all Americans, the reason coffee won’t taste what you’re expecting is because you’re used to American coffee.

A fourth person quipped: “Imagine actually tasting real coffee in Australia and then preferring a coffee milkshake like Starbucks or something.”

Erin also explained that using public transit instead of Ubers would save money — which was worthwhile — but her final point about that “crushed avocado on toast was the “national dish” added fury to the fire.

“Then don’t take an Uber everywhere. You will run out of money very quickly,” she said.

“Instead, just take public transport because not only is it cheaper, but it’s such a cool experience.

“Lastly, don’t underestimate the mashed avocado. It’s called the national dish for a reason and it’s delicious,” she said.

Sure enough, the Aussies were quick to point out that was not the case.

“Point 1: Coffee in Sydney is always better than in Melbourne. Point 2: AVO TOAST IS NOT OUR NATIONAL DISH,” one furious TikTok user wrote.

“Did you just call avocado toast our national dish?” YOU SURE PLEASURE? another asked.

One person joked that the national dish was ‘Bunnings snags’.

“Excuse me, a Bunnings sausage is the national dish,” they wrote.

“The national dish is definitely a Bunnings snag,” another agreed.
