Why GTA 6 Will Likely Be Officially Revealed in 2022

Grand Theft Auto VI is already confirmed, but we haven’t seen anything yet and technically Rockstar hasn’t even confirmed the title. However, given that they haven’t had a captioned main entry in some time, it seems safe to say that it will be GTA 6. However, now that Rockstar has repeatedly confirmed that the game is in active development, the question has shifted from “Where is GTA 6?” to “When will GTA 6That’s an understandable question and a big part of why I think Rockstar Games will unveil the game this year, among other reasons.

Rockstar Games had to live with their comment sections asking for information on Grand Theft Auto VI for many, many years, but in early 2022 he decided to break his silence and confirm that he is coming. If the developer had gone this long without acknowledging it, what difference would an extra year or two have made? It doesn’t change the situation the studio finds itself in, it just changes the question it’s being asked. Not only that, but Rockstar recently noted that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto is why it basically limits support for red dead online. It all seems like a bad move if you can’t show something sooner rather than later.

Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive has also been avoiding questions about the next Grand Theft Auto for years. The company acknowledged that GTA 6 is in development on its last earnings call in August and noted the ambition of Rockstar’s new game. If you want to keep investors on the hook, it would make sense to have a trailer or some sort of big announcement soon. In October, Rockstar will celebrate two very special anniversaries. The Grand Theft Auto series turns 25 on October 21 and October 29, Grand Theft Auto Vice City will be 20 years old. Of course, Vice City is the supposed setting of GTA 6. It’s possible that Rockstar will start teasing a reveal on October 21 ahead of the game’s first trailer on October 29.

Around November, Take-Two Interactive will likely host its Q2 earnings call, as that’s around when the company historically hosts this event. It would be a great preview to showcase the new Grand Theft Auto before releasing the company’s financials. Rockstar also announced the two Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 in October 2011 and 2016 respectively. Both games received small teasers to announce the reveal, which happened in the days that followed. Even the 2021 GTA Trilogy was announced in October!

If we want to go further, it wouldn’t be surprising if Rockstar confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in the fall of 2023 to get some hype, but push it back to 2024 because they historically ended up delaying most of their games. It’s also been reported that some developers don’t see the game releasing until 2024.

Either way, it’s pretty hard to imagine Rockstar going almost a full year after acknowledging that the game is happening and not doing anything more with that information. If the goal of confirming it’s in development was to try to get fans to be more patient, a longer silence will likely only create further frustration. That said, it seems more likely than ever that we’re close enough to a reveal to Grand Theft Auto VI.
