STRONG POINTS

  • Murray lost the match in four sets
  • Isner produced 38 aces to stun Murray
  • Murray looked far from his best against Isner

British tennis star Andy Murray on Wednesday June 29 collapsed from Wimbledon 2022 after losing 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3), 4-6 against the American No. 20. seed John Isner.

Murray, 35, came on after a close game against Australian James Duckworth. The veteran lost the first set, but came back to win three straight sets, helping him through to the second round.

Against Isner, Murray failed to give his best and continued to breathe. After losing the first two sets, Murray found himself under immense pressure.

In the third set, Murray kept Isner in check for quite a while, taking the game to the tiebreaker where he found some strength.

Murray lost his rhythm in the third set and found himself on the back foot. This time, Isner did not let his opponent regain a foothold in the game.

Isner produced a staggering 38 aces and they proved to be a crucial factor in the context of the game. He also converted two out of three break points against the three-time Grand Slam winner.

RADUCANU FACING ELIMINATION

Emma Raducanu was another great British player who failed to make it past the second round. She lost to France’s Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-3 at Center Court on Wednesday.

Last month, Raducanu flattered herself that she was wrong in her debut appearance at the 2022 French Open at Roland Garros. Afterwards, she got a bit tense due to some injury issues. After winning the first round match at SW19, Raducanu couldn’t make good progress.
