an australian video game studio has teamed up with some of the best gamers in the country to develop a new online multiplayer game.

Developed by PlaySide Studios, world boss is a first-person shooter that sees 16 players compete online in an arena-like environment, with only one to be crowned “world boss”.

It’s compared to people like Fortnitebut its creators say World Boss is adding its “own character” to the table.

By bringing in popular Australian gamers LazarBeam and Fresh, PlaySide Studios hopes their expertise will fuel exciting new ideas in the game.

Steven Yeakey, General Manager for PC and Console at PlaySide, has been working on the game since day one, he says their partnership with the pair has helped steer the game in the right direction.

“They were instrumental in helping us provide feedback, connecting us with the right people to test the game early on and really helping us validate our ideas,” Yeakey told

Yeakey said Fresh helped bring down the weapon balance for the game, while LazarBeam helped guide the PlaySide Studios team in implementing fun perks and other gameplay elements.

“We have a very specific feel to the game and he was instrumental in making sure it wasn’t just good for the player, but also balanced and fair,” Yeaky said, also highlighting the collaborative efforts. between the team.

Bobby Lever is a senior producer for World Boss, he says that while LazarBeam and Fresh have established a large following by playing Fortnitethey don’t want it to look like a copy.

“Obviously we didn’t want to do something that was a carbon copy of what was already there, so initially we wanted to put a unique spin on the shooter and do something a little bit different,” he said. he declares.

world boss was officially released last month, with an early access version available on Steam.

Yeakey says the goal is to build the rest of the game from player feedback.

“It’s one of the core tenets of our development process,” he said.

Early Access allows developers to gather feedback, make changes, and effectively understand player needs, Yeakey explained.

“We see this as the very first steps in starting something pretty awesome and we’re committed to taking it where the community wants it to go,” he said.

Natasha Roberts, producer at Playside Studios, says gaming is about generating “great moments” for players.

“Our base mode is an endless game mode where you enter, level up, gain abilities, weapons, gear, and try to find the right build to take out your opponents,” he said. she declared.

Roberts describes world boss as a “lightweight social experience”, which is inspired by roguelites and IO games.

Each match will be a unique and random experience for the player, Lever said.

“The key to world boss is that there can be a lot of similarities and familiarity with the individual mechanics, but the way we decided to provide them to the player, and how we let them use them, I think is quite unique,” said he declared.

Lever said the development team wanted to do world boss as quickly and easily as possible.

“We have servers running almost all the time, so you’ll just have to jump into a free slot in a match that probably already has players,” he said.

“The state of the game may be different at any time, but it gives you the flexibility to resume anytime, play as long as you want, and leave when you need to.”

Yeakey says players can find a sense of familiarity between Bos of the worlds and other games, but at a basic level it’s all about fun.

“(world boss) is much faster to enter, much easier to exit. Because of that, I think it’s probably one of the unique things that will draw people in early,” he said.

“You don’t have to invest hundreds of hours to feel able to gain an advantage or be effective. It takes minutes.”
