Spyro has come to the dark neon streets of Stray in a new mod that turns cat-like adventure into snake-like abode.
As Stray’s silent cat jumped into Doom, a significantly more scaly creature came to replace it. The mod named Spyro the Dragon (opens in a new tab) swap Stray’s furry hero with the classic purple mascot.
The mod allows you to play as Spyro and replaces all other cats you encounter in the game with another dragon of a different color or pattern. Utilizing the Spyro character model from 2018’s Spyro Reignited Trilogy, the dragon’s hi-res textures fit perfectly into Stray’s Stranger Than Fiction Town.
This is a mod, however, so you will need to be running Stray on PC to make it work. If you are a PS5 or PS4 owner, you have a different chance as console gamers can play Stray for free with this cheat.

Spyro fits the role surprisingly well. Although he is a fire-breathing dragon, he is similar in size to Stray’s tabby, allowing him to fit right into the cyberpunk world without too much of a gap. It also helps that he’s a pretty nice guy, and rivals even the most cuddly cat for cuteness.
With no officially announced Spyro game in development, fans of the 3D platformer might have to settle for this mod for now. Stray’s one-button jumping can’t compete with the fluid aerial platforming of the original series, though it’s arguably at its best when you’re not doing anything at all. Even Insomniac, the original development studio behind Spyro, is on board, Tweeter (opens in a new tab) mod support.
Creator CelticDragon85 says (opens in a new tab) they also want to see Stray’s cat replaced with Pokemon’s Eevee or Mew, so watch out for other furious imposters heading into the game. If only someone could combine these skins with the Stray split-screen multiplayer mod, we would all be ready.
